Cyber Bullying in Schools - 962 Words

Twenty percent of high school students admit to being a victim and/or participating in cyberbullying (â€Å"Cyberbullying†). This form of bullying that takes place on the Internet, is beginning to become a major problem in our society. Cyber bullying must be terminated in order to prevent teenage depression, fights breaking out in schools, and adolescences growing up to become criminals. Depression in teenagers is a major issue in the world around us. According to the article Cyberbullying, Targets of cyber bullying can experience emotional distress, including frustration, embarrassment, sadness, fear, and depression.† A lot of bullies, when caught in the act of cyber bullying, will claim that they were just joking, or that the victim†¦show more content†¦Students suffering might not be able to focus on their schoolwork when all they can think about is the person who is bullying them and/or what the bully has said. They could be fearful of how bad the bully makes them feel or how much they just want to avoid the bully. But sadness and depression could easily lead to anger and anger can easily lead to conflict. According to Yalda Uhls, â€Å"Most studies have found that the majority of victims of cyber bullying know the perpetrator, with many bullies being peers from school.† If the victim of cyberbullying is attending the same school as the perp etrator, then there is always a risk of a fight breaking out between the two. No one is safe when it comes to cyberbullying. Not only are children being hurt emotionally, but they are being hurt physically too. There have been many cases of teenage cyber bullies growing up to be real criminals. Children who are surrounded by Internet tormentors are not always safe since delinquency and violence have been associated with cyber bullying many times before (â€Å"Cyberbullying†). Some cyber bullies get so used to bullying others as a child, that they quickly become accustomed to breaking the law in other ways. Even on school grounds, children must keep their guard up as Cyberbullying has also been linked to possession of weapons on school grounds† (â€Å"Cyberbullying†).
